What is Title Fraud?

Title Fraud is a crime against homeowners and financial institutions which involves either the refinancing of a person's property by fraudulent means, or the fraudulent transfer of title out of a person's name and into someone else's.

Title Fraud can leave the homeowner without legal title to their own home, or stuck with a mortgage that they did not take out. It can lead to months or years of litigation, and the costs of straightening everything out can be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Homeowners can protect themselves from some of the stresses and repercussions that Title Fraud can cause by contacting their lawyer and finding out about Title Insurance. It can be obtained only through a lawyer, and for a one-time premium, and will help cover legal costs and help you resolve things quickly should you find yourself a victim of Title Fraud.
